Sixth Year of Series, January 2017
Honorary Chairman: Mayor Carlo DeMaria   Chairperson: Terry Iannaco   Editor: Dale A. Palma

From the Desk of Mayor Carlo DeMaria

There is new and exciting news everyone! Beginning on January 9, 2017, the City of Everett will be introducing a “Healthy Lifestyle Lunch Program for Seniors." As we grow older, our metabolism slows down, so you need fewer calories than before. Your body also needs more of certain nutrients, which means it is important to choose foods that give you the best nutritional value. Our NEW Senior Lunch Program is now managed by a dietitian, who will teach you to eat healthier by lowering your sodium intake, but still eating flavorful with great-tasting and nutritionally balanced meals.

Let's admit it - grocery shopping, cooking and cleaning may not be easy for many older adults, but our Healthy Senior Lunch Program will provide an easy way to ensure that you will have fresh, wholesome, delicious lunches - free of preservatives and artificial ingredients, low in sodium, saturated fats and cholesterol. The program will also ensure that all who participate will have the proper amount of calories, vitamins, minerals and other nutrients that older adults need. The menu will change daily - offering an unending assortment of exciting dishes, and ensuring that even finicky eaters will obtain nutritional balance and proper calorie intake through a variety of nutrient rich vegetables, whole grains, fruits and high quality protein options that are absolutely delicious! The new Lunch Program will be prepared, cooked and served right in the Connolly Center, where you can enjoy a healthy lunch in our new Senior Community Café!

Lastly, my family and I would like to send warm wishes for a Happy and Healthy New Year!
